RELIGION
We have a new Religion book this year in
Third Grade.It is called We Are the Church .It is published by the
Sadlier company. We have four units in this text book.
We Are The
Church
Unit One is entitled Jesus Gives Us the
Church. The children learn that God the Son became one of us.Jesus
grew up in Nazareth.Jesus begins His work. Jesus shows us how to live
as followers.
Unit Two is entitled We Are Members of the
Church. The children will learn that Jesus chose the Apostles to lead
the Church.The pope and bishops are the successors of the apostles.
The Church is One and Holy. The Church is Catholic and Apostolic.
Unit Three is entitled The Church
Leads us in Worship.The children will learn that the Church
celebrates the sacraments. Baptism , Confirmation, and Eucharist are
sacraments of Christian initiation. Reconciliation, and Anointing of
the Sick are sacraments of Healing.Holy Orders and Matrimony are
sacraments of service to others.
Unit Four is called We Are Called
to Discipleship .The children will learn that Jesus shares his
mission with his disciples. Jesus brings his life and love to all
people. The church works for justice and peaceWe live out the good
news of Jesus Christ.
In the Spring, we start the. Benziger
Family Life Series. Catholic family life education is much more than
"sex education". In conjunction with a complete catechetical
formation progam (which family life education supplements, but does
not replace), the study of family life is intended to foster the
development of important attitutes and moral values for a
lifetime.The goal of Catholic family life education is to support
parents and other family members in their God given task of providing
young people with the information, guided by the valules and
responsibilites of the whole person, physical,psychological, social,
and spirtual. need and the moral formation they deserve.
The basic theme of the text is God's gift
of life. It shows, in a Catholic context, how the gift is shared by
all living creatures - plants, animals, and human beings. Benziger
Family Life 3 helps students understand how life is begun and
nurtured in a loving family. It helps the students recognize their
own gifts and responsibilities with regard to creation.
