What We Have Been Up to in the Art Center at St. Mary’s
Last year was rather eventful and went by so quickly. The students accomplished great things. It always amazes me how very talented and creative they can be. I feel very lucky to be teaching them.
We did some remarkable design at the beginning of last year. Our paintings were fabulous. Graphic Arts were fun. The students love clay projects and seem to want to go on forever “playing in the mud” so to speak. Our grand finale was our creation of giant flowers for the Art in the Park at the end of the year. They were spectacular! And a big hit. We also created a giant mural based on the work of Diego Rivera, with the help of Mrs. Blasinski , Mrs. La Mantia, and Mrs. Kraus. It was designed and drawn by seven of our 7th grade boys (now 8th graders). They are pictured here. They were entirely in charge of the project and I can’t tell you how impressed I was with their talent and perseverance.
The Auction was a huge success and the children provided some of the most popular pieces. Another success was the Art/GardenWalk. Mrs. Boge and Mrs. Capistrano-Shalvis and Mr. Shalvis did super human feats to help us display and showcase all the wonderful work the children created. It was an incredible culmination of all of the students work. The students were a great help on that day. We also raised quite a bit towards our new kiln fund. We thank the garden club and all of you for your generosity and support. We still do have a bit to go, however.
All of us together make for a wonderful year and I look forward to another with anticipation!
