What We Have Been Up to in the Art Center at St. Mary’s Art 2009
I n our art department, we are off to a wonderful start this year. We have done some wonderful designs based on the patterns derived from the cactus and it’s habitat. The designs were ingenious and will look great for the fundraiser sponsored by PIE. This is something we do every year. The children create a work of art and it is sent to a company that applies it to a variety of products, which parents can purchase. This project includes all students from pre-school to 8th and will immortalize your child’s work for all eternity. It definitely makes a great remembrance.
We have a very comprehensive program that tries to incorporate the many elements of art with as many media as possible. We follow the Illinois Standards, so that students are more than ready for the art programs in High School and beyond. We work with design, drawing, graphics, construction, clay, fabric, yarns, textile design, paper mache, and the list goes on. We always try to bring out the creativity gene in each child from pre-school to 8th grade. I am always amazed at the wonderful work they can achieve with imagination, a variety of media, and a" sky is the limit "attitude. In March, I will again notify all students, K-8, of the Summer Art Camp. Please keep this in mind for those that would like to further their art experience for two weeks more. The classes this year will run from June 14th to June 25th. The classes are: K-3 from 9:00am to 11:00am and 4-8 from11:00am to 1:00pm. We do painting on canvases and have a field trip on the last day. The cost is $125.00 per week (some choose to participate in one week only). I am looking forward to another year of creativity and I thank you for giving your child the opportunity to join in the adventure.
