Library / Resource Center

*New to the Library/Resource Center*

The latest addition to the library is “Destiny”, our new library management system.  Destiny puts the library’s catalog in every classroom, allowing teachers and students to browse the collection whenever the need arises.  This easy-to-use system is designed to strengthen the library/classroom connection by letting users find the right materials by subject, reading level, and relevance.

The library welcomes students during regular school hours and specially scheduled times before and after school. Preschoolers enjoy guest readers during their library time, while Kindergarten through Grade 6 students learn how to use a library, check out books, do research for class projects, and participate in activities which enhance reading and language skills. Students in Grades 7 and 8 visit the library as needed for books and reference materials to complete class assignments.

While the library's circulating and reference collections are geared to supporting classroom curriculum, students are able to find a variety of materials to satisfy their tastes in reading. New and classic fiction books and current nonfiction books and magazines offer something for every level of skill and interest.

Students may use CD-ROM resources on the library's computers for research purposes and also have supervised Internet access. They have access to the library's online catalog, not only in the library, but in their classrooms, too.

Parent volunteers are most welcome to help with the tasks that are necessary to keep the library running smoothly. Most of them schedule time when their children's classes are in the library, but other times are fine, too.

Illustrator Harry Bliss answers one of the many questions that students had for him during his visit to St. Mary.

The original of this Harry Bliss illustration hangs on the wall in library!
