St. Mary School's 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students of Spanish have been working tirelessly to raise money in order to make a donation to a very worthy cause. Since its founding in 1954 by Fr. William B. Wasson, Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH, Spanish for “Our Little Brothers and Sisters”), has worked to end the vicious cycle of poverty by giving safe and loving homes and brighter futures to children. Those at NPH are not available for adoption. Instead they are welcomed with their brothers and sisters into the larger NPH family, where they are accepted unconditionally. They are taught the values of work, sharing and responsibility. Each has the opportunity to finish a technical course or seek a university degree. When children leave NPH they are prepared to be productive, self-sufficient and caring members of their own communities.

Our junior high students have been preparing and looking forward to welcome sixteen young ladies and gentlemen from the orphanage in rural, southern Mexico who will be performing for the St. Mary community. We have watched video clips describing the Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos. Pictures and details of each of our guests have been sent to us. We are getting to know their faces and stories. The Student Council has been providing daily tidbits of information to inform the entire student body.

Students of Spanish have been diligent in collecting donations at soccer games, football games, and before and after masses. The Student Council organized a “Fiesta Bake Sale” during lunch periods. We look forward to presenting the total of all the very generous donations at the finale of the performance!
