Congratulations to our State Science Fair Finalists! May 8th was the Illinois Junior Academy of Science Fair at the University of Illinois in Champaign. The following students received Gold status in their specific category:

Academic Recognition

We were recently informed by Nazareth Academy that Lindsey T. has been named a recipient of the Unity Scholarship for the class of 2014. Based on Lindsey's academics, extra-curricular activities, and leadership abilities, she will be awarded a $1,000 tuition scholarship at the Scholarship Award Evening. This scholarship is renewable.

C. and K. Manika each received the Queen of Peace Leadership awards for 2010-2011.

Contest

St. Mary School would like to congratulate Amelia Reggi on winning the annual American Association of University Women essay contest. Her monologue was a tribute to Amelia Bloomer, women’s rights activist.

Special Scholarship

We are very proud of Danielle L. who is a recipient of the Trinity Leadership Scholarship. Danielle will receive a $1,000.00 monetary gift each year at Trinity High School. Job well done, Danielle!

Annual Spelling Bee – The Annual Spelling Bee was held this past week and was once again filled with challenging words and much excitement. We are very grateful for the Awards and Gift Cards provided by the Riverside Junior Women’s Charity who will also place a story and photo in the local newspaper.

Drug Poster Contest

Nikile C. won 2nd place in Cook County Drug Poster Contest. She will get a Saving Bond by the State of Illinois and her poster will be on displayed at the State of Illinois Building in downtown Chicago.

 

 

 

 

Early this spring, Mrs. Pedryc submitted poems that her 7th and 8th grade students wrote in English class for a contest. We are happy to announce that 72 students' poems were chosen for publication in the next Creative Communication's Celebration of Poets. Congratulations to our soon to be published poets!

The Reflections on Riverside Student Poetry Contest sponsored by Frederick Law Olmsted Society- St. Mary School had two winners;

Jr. high Division, all Riverside Schools, Becky.W. took 2nd place for her poem "The Tunnel of Trees" she received a plaque & Chocolate Bar, segments of her poem is printed on a rain barrel which was placed in the Great Bear Wilderness exhit at the Brookfield Zoo.

3rd grader Kane L. took 1st place in the Elementary division with his poem "Turtle Park in My Eyes." Kane receivd $25.00, a plaque and chocolate bar.
